Ruby Stevens-Morgan has spent her entire professional career in education, from secondary schools and colleges to education agencies and organizations that support educators.

As a teacher, Ruby wanted to better understand why some students seemed to “get it” while others struggled. That curiosity led her to earn a Ph.D. in Educational Psychology and deepen her understanding of the science of learning.

Today, she focuses on coaching early-career teachers because she understands the challenges they face and the impact teachers have on the students they serve. Her work helps teachers understand the totality of who they are, leverage their Character Strengths, and navigate daily challenges with greater intention and less stress.

Bottom line, Ruby cares about students. And she believes getting the best outcomes for students starts with having effective teachers in the classroom.

She was a high school business teacher who was hired for her first teaching position less than a month before school started. She was excited but struggled to find her footing. She worked with a good team but spent a lot of time figuring things out on her own because she didn’t want to be perceived as being “out of her league”. She did what she had to do to be an effective teacher but it took some long nights. She wishes she had known about the character strengths then.

Her Story

She didn't study resilience. She built it.

Ruby Stevens Morgan is next to the youngest one of nine children raised in a small Southern town by two factory workers — on hard work, faith, and family. Education beyond high school was rare where she came from. Ruby beat the odds, earning her associate's degree right after high school and spending the next 27 years climbing in professional leadership.

At 47, she earned her doctoral degree in Educational Psychology. Not because it came easily — because she had decided, long before anyone believed it was possible, that her past would not be the ceiling on her future.

“You are not a product of your past. You are the architect of your future.”

But it wasn't the degree that changed her. It was Positive Psychology. When she discovered its principles, something shifted — she became more resilient, more focused, more herself. People noticed. So she started sharing what she found — first in a Positivity and Prayer group, then through formal coaching certification, then through Coaches of Faith, LLC.
