What is coaching?

What is coaching not?

Coaching is not therapy, counseling, consulting, or mentoring.

Ruby’s coaching does not diagnose or treat mental health conditions. It is not designed to provide clinical therapy or process unresolved trauma in a therapeutic way. It is also not a done-for-you consulting service where someone simply tells you what to do step by step.

Instead, coaching helps you clarify what is happening now, identify what needs to shift, and move forward with greater intention, resilience, and support.

How is coaching different from therapy or counseling?

Therapy and counseling often focus more deeply on healing the past, treating mental health concerns, and working through emotional wounds at a clinical level.

Coaching is more future-oriented. It focuses on where you are now, where you want to go, what may be getting in the way, and how to strengthen the mindset, habits, and internal capacity needed to move forward.

Past experiences may be discussed when they help clarify present patterns, but the primary focus of coaching is not to resolve the past. It is to help you move forward with greater awareness, resilience, and purposeful action.

How is coaching different from consulting?

A consultant is hired to solve a specific problem, deliver a project, or provide expert direction in a specialized area.

Ruby does provide structure, tools, reflection, and guidance, but the work remains centered on your development, decision-making, and growth.

How is coaching different from mentoring?

Coaching is less about telling you which path to follow and more about helping you uncover the strongest path for you. Ruby’s role is to help you gain clarity, strengthen your thinking, and move forward with greater confidence and self-trust rather than simply telling you what to do.
